We at flamsteads have over 23 years experience, knowledge and awareness in the cleaning of bridal wear. We are dedicated to the cleaning and preserving of your precious bridal gown.

Solvent chilling - why have solvent chilling?

With our modern dry cleaning facility we are able to regulate the temperature of the solvent so to avoid the increasing temperature of solvent during a days cleaning and also during warm weather periods such as the 35 degrees c. plus during july & august 2003. Solent temperature can reach up to 45 degrees c. and this has a high impact on delicate beads, trimmings and fibres, making the dress look as if it has aged considerably during the cleaning process.

We clean normal cloths at 21 degrees and for bridal wear we are able to set the temperature to as low as 16 degrees c.

The benefit to your wedding dress is that there is a minimal impact on degrading the garment during cleaning, including any beads or sequins that may be on the garment. This will leave your dress in the best possible condition after cleaning.

Boxing & Archiving

There are two standard box's large and small for the fitted dress. These boxes are designed to preserve you dress in the years to come. They seal tight with an inner cover this also has the added benefit that it keeps the dress free from light which is one of the key reasons why garments discolour over time. The box's are also acid free and the dresses are wrapped in acid free paper to minimise the impact of ageing.

There is also a beautiful selection of wedding dress boxes that are supplied by the empty box company; these come in various styles, sizes and colours. there is also shoe, hat and small item box's available. These items are order only and take between 3 - 4 weeks delivery.

How long does the cleaning and preservation take?

…..we usually take 2 - 4 weeks. we take our time to make sure it will be as perfect as it can be.

How much does it cost?

….our prices vary, as it depends on style and fabric. a traditional dress will start from £129.00. simpler gowns will naturally cost less.

If you are outside our collection and delivery area we can arrange for your dress to be couriered or posted to us.

TAILORING – ALTERATIONS & REPAIRS - For over two decades, tailoring has been a tradition at Flamsteads as the founders of Flamsteads were Tailors. Which is why our pressing and presentation is the best, we at Flamsteads know how to present garments and get the best out you clothes.

Whether you require your garments shortened, tapered or repaired due to damage, we at flamsteads have a reputation that is well known in the Hertfordshire and Essex regions. We are able to replace zips in trousers, skirts or even coats.

Good tailoring always shows through as confidence.

At our Hertford branch fittings are also available to guarantee that your garments fit you as you would expect them to, this service is by appointment only.

SUEDE – LEATHER & RE-WAX – Although at Flamsteads we provide many specialist services, we also provide services from out side service providers. In this case we are agents for Ace suede and leather cleaners, who have over 15 years experience in this area.

Their processes are second to none, giving your items the best that is available in this highly skilled service.

Service takes 10 - 15 days depending on delivery days.

SILK RE – OILING – When cleaning silk garments repeatedly, or with older items the natural oils may become depleted thus giving the garment a washed out old look, colours dull and softened especially when not cleaned with the Sanitone system.

We are able to replace these natural oils to replenish silk garments such as wedding dresses, gowns or silk curtains.

We are also able to recoat items with “sizing” a product used by manufactures on fabric to give them that special new sheen that is lost during cleaning, this is a standard part of cleaning garments with the Sanitone cleaning system.

EXTRA LARGE CURTAINS – Due to our large dry cleaning machinery and the extra capacity, we are able to clean curtains as large as stage curtains with ease without crushing or over filing, ensuring quality cleaning and a great finish to your curtains

CURTAIN TAKE DOWN & RE – HANG SERVICE – We have alliances with curtain makers who are able to take down and rehang the most ornate or complicated curtains designs.
